Alexander Gustafsson could soon step back into competition, but this time inside a boxing ring. The Swedish star built his name as one of the top light heavyweights in UFC history, even without capturing a title. He retired in 2022 after years of high-level fights that earned him global respect.

A report from Swedish outlet Frontkick.online now claims that “The Mauler” is in advanced talks with Misfits Boxing. He is reportedly preparing for his professional boxing debut. Early indications suggest he may face another former UFC veteran if the negotiations succeed.

Gustafsson’s recent UFC battles

Gustafsson first stepped away from fighting after losing to Anthony Smith by submission in June 2019 at UFC Stockholm. In 2020, he returned from retirement and moved to heavyweight. He fought former champion Fabrício Werdum at UFC Fight Island 3 but suffered a first-round submission defeat.

Two years later, in July 2022, the Swede dropped back to light heavyweight. He faced Nikita Krylov at UFC London but lost by first-round knockout.

End of UFC contract and uncertain ventures

The UFC released Gustafsson from his contract in December 2024. Shortly afterward, he signed with the Global Fight League, a new promotion that promised big events. The project failed before its first show because of financial problems.

A career full of memorable moments

Gustafsson retires from MMA with a record of 18 wins and 8 defeats. Inside the UFC, his tally stands at 10 victories and 8 losses. His highlight reel includes victories over Glover Teixeira, Jimi Manuwa, and Matt Hamill. Though he never won a championship, he remains a legend for pushing the division’s best fighters to their limits.
