Former two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya expressed high admiration for Khamzat Chimaev after his dominant performance at UFC 319 in Chicago. Chimaev secured the middleweight title with a commanding five-round victory over Dricus du Plessis, improving his record to an undefeated 15-0. Adesanya shared his reaction on his YouTube channel, stating, “Khamzat, new middleweight champion, and yeah, the division is in good hands.”
Impressive Control and Cardio Highlight Chimaev’s Victory
Chimaev took control early in the fight, securing a takedown within the first 10 seconds and controlling Du Plessis in a crucifix position for much of the opening round. The dominance continued across all rounds, including a dominant 10-8 third round. Despite a brief fifth-round escape and offensive attempt by Du Plessis, Chimaev maintained control and won unanimously with a 50-44 score from all judges.
Adesanya was particularly impressed with Chimaev’s cardio, noting the champion’s ability to maintain relentless pressure throughout the full 25 minutes, a marked improvement from previous perceptions. He highlighted how Chimaev’s stamina prevented Du Plessis from mounting an effective comeback, describing Chimaev as a “mess to deal with” because of his sustained relentless pace and ability to neutralize his opponent’s energy.
