Shakur Stevenson added another chapter to his rising legacy on Saturday night, claiming a world title in a fourth weight class with a dominant victory over Teofimo Lopez Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
A Statement Win at Junior Welterweight
Stevenson stepped up in weight for the bout, making his debut at junior welterweight, and looked completely at home from the opening bell. He outboxed Lopez over 12 rounds, earning a unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight 119-109 in his favor.
The win improved Stevenson’s record to 25-0 with 11 knockouts and made him a champion across four divisions. He entered the fight riding momentum from a commanding win over William Zepeda in July.
Another Milestone in Stevenson’s Career
With this victory, Stevenson added the junior welterweight crown to titles he previously held at featherweight, junior lightweight, and lightweight. His speed, defense, and ring control proved too much for Lopez, as Stevenson dictated the pace throughout the fight.
The performance further cemented Stevenson’s reputation as one of boxing’s most technically gifted fighters and a major force across multiple weight classes.
Lopez Falls Short Despite Strong Resume
Lopez, now 22-2 with 13 knockouts, came into the fight on a six-fight winning streak following his upset loss to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. Saturday’s bout marked the fourth defense of the 140-pound title he won from Josh Taylor in June 2023.
A former unified lightweight champion, Lopez has notable wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Arnold Barboza Jr., but he was unable to match Stevenson’s precision and consistency on this night at the Garden.
