Trading Fights for Film Sets
After a 15-year career in mixed martial arts, Maurice Greene has officially retired from the sport. His move into acting began unexpectedly when a filmmaker offered him a small role while he was training in New Mexico. Inspired by the opportunity, Greene took acting classes, signed with an agency, and completed over 100 auditions, eventually landing a key role in the Jordan Peele-produced horror movie Him.
A Fighter’s Journey
Greene entered MMA to lose weight and overcome challenges from childhood bullying, quickly rising to compete in top leagues such as the UFC and PFL. Persistent spinal injuries and nerve damage, coupled with a knockout loss early in 2025, prompted him to prioritize his long-term health and step away from professional fighting.
Stepping Into Hollywood
Now focused on his acting career and family, Greene portrays Malek in Him, a trainer with a sinister agenda. Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, the film follows a young football player recovering from a career-threatening injury while training under a legendary quarterback at a secluded compound. Greene notes that acting, like MMA, demands mental and physical resilience. Him is scheduled for nationwide release on September 19, 2025.
