Ricky Hatton’s longtime manager, Paul Speak, found the former world champion dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester.
Speak told Boxing News he felt “shock and confusion” when he discovered Hatton early on Sunday morning.
He had gone to check on Hatton after the boxer missed a boxing event on September 13.
Inside Hatton’s Home
Speak noticed the lights were off and initially assumed Hatton had overslept.
He used his key to enter the house, calling out, “Rick, Rick, wake up!”
He heard music upstairs, went to investigate, and saw Hatton.
Speak paused to process the scene before calling police and an ambulance.
He said, “I firmly believe he didn’t intend to do it. He had it all to live for.”
Police stated earlier that Hatton’s death is not suspicious.
Hatton’s Plans and Family Life
Speak said Hatton “was in a really good place” before his death.
Hatton had arranged to take his daughters to see Oasis and planned a Thailand trip for the WBC convention.
He had booked a Christmas flight to Tenerife and intended to visit his father after returning from Dubai.
Speak defended Hatton’s relationship with his parents, saying he had recently hugged and spent time with his mother.
He said Hatton’s daughters had never seen him box and he was excited for that experience.
Speak emphasized that Hatton had many things to live for and enjoyed a positive state of mind.
