Lin Yuting Prepares for Mandatory Gender Test

Box-Olympic champion Lin Yuting will take the gender test required by World Boxing before the Liverpool World Championship.
Her coach, Tseng Tzuchiang, confirmed the decision to AFP.
Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif faced a gender debate at the Paris Olympics.
The suspended IBA excluded them from the 2023 World Championship over alleged testosterone test failures.
The IOC allowed both athletes to compete in Paris, recognizing the gender listed in their passports.

World Boxing Introduces Compulsory Screening

World Boxing confirmed the mandatory test for all female competitors two weeks before the World Championship.
The federation stated the rule ensures safety and creates equal competition between men and women.
Female athletes over 18 must complete a one-time PCR test or equivalent genetic screening to verify birth sex.
Officials implemented the new guideline on Wednesday, applying it to all eligible competitors.

Olympic Controversy Sparks Policy

Olympic debates over Lin and Khelif in Paris triggered the new regulation.
The IBA had claimed the boxers did not meet participation criteria and held advantages over other female competitors.
The IOC criticized the IBA decision as arbitrary and allowed both athletes to compete.
Both Lin and Khelif won gold medals at the Olympics.
World Boxing gained IOC recognition in February to organize boxing at Paris 2024, and will manage tournaments in Los Angeles 2028.
