Garcia Delivers on the Big Stage
Ryan Garcia finally captured world title glory with a commanding victory over Mario Barrios, claiming the WBC welterweight crown in style. Dropping Barrios early, Garcia controlled the pace from start to finish and secured a wide unanimous decision, even sweeping every round on one judge’s scorecard.
It was a composed and disciplined display from Garcia, who had previously fallen short in world title bids. This time, he left little doubt, outboxing Barrios and showcasing sharper timing and ring control throughout the contest.
Big Fights on the Horizon
With the belt now around his waist, Garcia has no shortage of options. A rematch with Devin Haney remains an obvious storyline, while clashes with Conor Benn or a revenge bout against Rolando Romero would also attract major attention.
However, in his post-fight remarks, Garcia set his sights elsewhere, calling out reigning WBC super-lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson’s stock has risen significantly following his recent win over Teofimo Lopez, and the potential matchup has quickly become one of the sport’s most talked-about possibilities.
Davis Backs the Fight — But Not Garcia
Former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis praised Garcia’s performance, calling it “amazing” and congratulating him on becoming a world champion. Still, when asked about a possible showdown with Stevenson, Davis didn’t hesitate to share his view.
Despite being close with Stevenson, Davis said he believes the Newark native would dominate Garcia if the fight happens. Stevenson has already expressed interest in the bout, stating he is willing to move up under certain conditions, though he prefers a 144lb catchweight rather than the full welterweight limit.
If the fight materializes, it promises to be a high-stakes clash between two of boxing’s most talked-about names — and, according to Davis, one that could firmly test Garcia’s reign.
