Kamaru Usman Targets Two Titles Before Possible 2026 Retirement

Kamaru Usman says he wants to retire in 2026 as a two-division UFC champion.
His first goal is to regain the welterweight belt, potentially against Islam Makhachev.

Usman believes winning that fight would set up a move to middleweight.
He hopes to face Khamzat Chimaev in a rematch for a second title.
Their first meeting at UFC 294 ended in a narrow loss for Usman on short notice.

The former champion said his ideal scenario is to capture two belts in one year and then walk away.
He added that he cannot challenge at 185lb until he reclaims the 170lb crown.

His path remains uncertain.
Some contenders are also pushing for the next welterweight title shot.
There is also doubt about how long Chimaev will stay at middleweight, with talk of a future move to light heavyweight.

Usman revived his momentum by ending a three-fight skid last year.
He now sees 2026 as his final chance to complete one of the sport’s most ambitious comebacks.
