Authorities have launched a new investigation after Nottinghamshire father Chris Harpin died in Alicante on June 23.
Harpin, aged 51, worked as a coach at Eastwood Amateur Boxing Club in Eastwood and was widely admired.
Inquest Opens at Nottingham Coroner’s Court
Coroner Sarah Wood opened an inquest on September 17 to examine the circumstances of Harpin’s death.
The hearing revealed a post-mortem indicated a provisional cause of death as traumatic chest injury.
Coroner Wood said, “I have now opened an inquest touching on the death of Christopher Harpin.”
She adjourned the hearing to allow further inquiries and will set a date for the inquest to resume.
Wood offered her condolences to Harpin’s family and friends during the hearing.
Community Raises Funds for Repatriation
Supporters created a fundraising page to cover Harpin’s repatriation and funeral expenses.
The campaign has collected nearly £17,000 through more than 130 donations so far.
