Gina Carano vs Ronda Rousey ‘Not a Cash Grab’, Says Coach

Gina Carano’s coach insists her 2026 comeback fight against Ronda Rousey is driven by competition, not money.
The bout will headline a Netflix event on 16 May under Most Valuable Promotions.

Coach John Wood said Carano is “fired up” and fully focused on winning.
He stressed that the goal is performance, not publicity or a payday.
According to Wood, she is already deep in preparation with a full coaching team.

Both fighters return after long absences.
Rousey last competed in 2016, when Amanda Nunes stopped her.
Carano has not fought since her 2009 loss to Cris Cyborg.

Fans questioned why the contest is not taking place in the UFC.
Rousey confirmed she contacted Dana White about a possible deal.
Talks did not lead to an agreement, which opened the door for the Netflix event.

The matchup between two pioneers of women’s MMA is expected to be one of the biggest attractions of 2026.
Wood said both athletes genuinely want to fight and prove themselves rather than simply make an appearance.
