Daniel Marcos returned to form in devastating fashion at UFC Vegas 111, rebounding from his first career defeat with a brutal submission win over Miles Johns.
The Peruvian bantamweight, who entered the bout 17-1 after a tough loss to Montel Jackson in May, looked sharp from the opening bell. After a competitive first round, Marcos took control on the mat in round two, securing multiple takedowns before taking Johns’ back and locking in a rear-naked choke.
Johns refused to tap and was rendered unconscious, leaving Marcos to push him aside and drop to the canvas in emotional celebration.
The win moves Marcos to 18-1 and marks the first submission victory of his career.
Speaking after the fight, Marcos opened up about the struggles that followed his first defeat:
“After the last fight, I fell into deep darkness,” he said. “A lot of people turned their backs on me, but those who love me stayed. I told myself I wouldn’t let that loss define me — I’d turn things around. Don’t let darkness turn off your light.”
Marcos’ powerful comeback performance sets him back on track as one of the UFC’s top rising prospects.
