Crawford Secures Historic Win Over Canelo

Terence Crawford maintained his perfect record by outboxing Canelo Alvarez in front of 70,482 fans at Allegiant Stadium. Crawford relied on sharp movement and precise punches to win a close unanimous decision over twelve rounds. Judges scored the fight 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113, giving Crawford his 42nd victory. The Omaha native frustrated Canelo with constant jabs and footwork that limited the Mexican star’s ability to connect cleanly. Canelo pressed forward throughout the bout and landed heavy body shots when he closed the distance. Crawford’s defensive strategy, however, prevented him from sustaining pressure.

Strategy and Turning Points

Crawford’s game plan relied on quick strikes followed by evasive movement that stalled Canelo’s attacks. In the sixth round, Crawford landed a sharp left hand as Canelo charged forward, which marked one of his best moments. After scoring, he moved constantly to run down the clock and avoid exchanges. Crawford repeated this approach in many rounds, ensuring judges remembered his clean shots while limiting Canelo’s effectiveness. Analysts labeled the tactic as a “keep-away” style, and it ultimately secured Crawford the win. Despite Canelo’s aggression, he struggled to cut off the ring or throw enough volume to change the outcome.

Future Uncertain for Both Fighters

After the bout, Crawford avoided committing to a rematch, saying he would consult his team before deciding. He acknowledged that any decision might also depend on Turki Alalshikh, who funded the event with massive payouts. Crawford earned $50 million for the fight, and insiders believe he would demand a bigger purse for a second clash. Canelo expressed openness to another meeting, praising Crawford while noting he felt good despite the loss. Still, Turki must weigh the financial value of staging a rematch given the fight’s lack of excitement compared to the undercard. For Crawford, future opponents who cut off the ring and throw volume could provide tougher challenges. Canelo, meanwhile, remains eager to return, but the decision rests on what fights Alalshikh chooses to make next.
