Crawford claims Paul–Tyson bout was ‘scripted’ and criticises legend’s return

Terence Crawford says he does not believe Jake Paul’s victory over Mike Tyson was a genuine fight. He repeated the claim while reflecting on the bout more than a year later.

The contest headlined Netflix’s first boxing event in late 2024. Paul won a decision against the former heavyweight champion, who had returned after almost 20 years away from professional action.

The matchup drew heavy criticism because of Tyson’s age. Many viewers described the fight as slow and underwhelming. Tyson avoided serious damage, which also raised questions.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience, Crawford said the performance looked controlled. He said Tyson appeared to hold back his punches. He called the situation painful to watch and argued the icon should not have been in the ring.

Crawford added that Tyson could have earned money in safer ways through his connections and reputation.

Despite the backlash, Tyson plans to fight again this year. He is expected to face Floyd Mayweather on April 25 in a bout reportedly targeted for the Congo. The matchup has already divided opinion.

Mayweather is also scheduled to meet Manny Pacquiao in a rematch at the Las Vegas Sphere in September.
