Conor McGregor has announced a radical plan for his long-awaited comeback to the UFC. The Irish superstar says he will enter a six-month period of complete isolation to focus solely on training and mental preparation.
“The Notorious” hopes to make his return at the UFC’s planned White House event in June 2026, organized to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. McGregor insists he is more motivated than ever to return to the Octagon.
Preparing for a long-delayed showdown with Michael Chandler
McGregor’s comeback fight is still expected to be against his Ultimate Fighter rival, Michael Chandler. The pair were originally set to clash at UFC 303 in June 2024, but McGregor was forced to withdraw after breaking his pinky toe.
The former two-division champion has since rejoined the drug testing pool, confirming his serious intention to compete again. Fans have eagerly anticipated the matchup, which promises to deliver explosive action.
A six-month operation to get fight-ready
Speaking before BKFC 82 last week, McGregor outlined his detailed plan for a full-scale return. He said he has just over eight months before the White House event and views the next six as a mission of total preparation.
“It’s a six-month operation to get ready,” McGregor said. “I’m focused and determined to put in the work. I was in incredible shape before, but a brief lapse in focus caused my injury. This time, I’ll correct that and show the world what I’m about.”
McGregor added that he feels driven by a renewed hunger to compete. “I’m eager to get back. There’s a lot at stake, and I’m excited to rise again. We’ll see what the future brings.”
Shutting out the world to focus on the fight
McGregor explained that his preparation will involve complete separation from distractions. “There will be a period of isolation where the phone will not be answered,” he said. “Everyone around me knows it’s coming. I understand the work that lies ahead. The phone will be off, and the work will be done.”
His disciplined approach marks a return to the intense focus that made him one of the UFC’s most captivating and successful athletes.
Four years since his last Octagon appearance
McGregor last fought in July 2021 at UFC 264, where he suffered a broken leg in his third bout against Dustin Poirier. Since then, he has remained sidelined.
The Dublin native holds a professional UFC record of 10 wins and 4 losses, with eight victories coming by knockout. His speed, precision, and personality made him one of the sport’s most influential stars.
Now, as the 2026 event approaches, McGregor appears ready to reclaim his place among the elite — driven by focus, discipline, and an unshakable desire to fight again.
