UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has shared his honest thoughts on the idea of a future boxing match against Jake Paul, admitting he sees it as a serious challenge for both men.
Jake Paul recently announced that he will face former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua after a planned bout with Gervonta Davis was scrapped. Paul’s search for opponents had reportedly included several MMA names, and he previously called out Pereira after defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Although talks between the two camps never materialised into a deal, Paul later claimed discussions did take place and said Pereira was open to the fight, with contractual obligations to the UFC being the main obstacle.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Pereira said he respects the challenge of a boxing crossover and believes he would perform well. He pointed to his past experience, saying he has done well in boxing sparring and has won professional boxing fights.
Meanwhile, Paul’s upcoming fight with Joshua represents a major step up in competition. A victory could significantly boost his credibility in the sport and potentially move him closer to his goal of becoming a recognised boxing world champion.
