A former UFC champion has questioned Alex Pereira’s plan to chase heavyweight glory. Pereira closed last year back on top of the light heavyweight division. He regained the 205-pound title with authority and confidence. The Brazilian made his intentions clear soon after that victory. He does not want a long title defense run. Pereira instead looks toward a new weight class.

Pereira settled old business with Magomed Ankalaev in October. He knocked the Dagestani contender out in their rematch. The finish ended doubts about their rivalry. Rather than focusing on a second reign, Pereira shifted direction. He spoke openly about moving up again. The former middleweight champion now targets the heavyweight division.

Many fans see opportunity at heavyweight for Pereira. The division often draws criticism for limited depth. Several observers believe Pereira could dominate with his striking. Some even predict a historic third UFC title. However, a rival with firsthand experience urges restraint.

Jamahal Hill Questions Pereira’s Heavyweight Path

Alex Pereira has delivered relentless violence since joining light heavyweight in 2024. His run included a brutal stoppage over Jamahal Hill. Pereira ended Hill’s hopes of a second title reign. He knocked him out in the first round at UFC 300. The finish spread rapidly across social media.

Hill recently addressed Pereira’s heavyweight ambitions in an interview. He said Pereira clearly wants a challenge. Hill also mentioned financial motivation behind the move. He acknowledged Pereira’s confidence after recent performances. Hill referenced recent heavyweight fights as examples of danger. He pointed to Tom Aspinall’s bout with Ciryl Gane.

Hill said boxing exchanges looked effective at heavyweight. Still, he described Pereira’s plan as extremely risky. He explained that heavyweights rely on size and control. Hill warned that grappling exchanges would increase. He said Pereira has defended takedowns before. He also noted Pereira has been grounded at 205 pounds. Hill stressed that larger fighters could simply overpower him. He said heavyweight opponents could lift and dominate him.

Jiri Prochazka Comments Fuel Speculation About Pereira’s Future

The UFC has not announced Pereira’s next fight or division. Comments from another former champion may hint at the plan. Jiri Prochazka recently spoke about his own situation. He knocked out Khalil Rountree Jr. in his last appearance. That win marked his second straight victory since losing again to Pereira.

Prochazka has pushed hard for another title opportunity. He suggested discussions remain ongoing behind the scenes. He referenced possible talks involving Carlos Ulberg. Many consider Ulberg the top contender at light heavyweight. The UFC appears interested in matching Ulberg with Prochazka. That direction could suggest Pereira’s exit from the division.

Prochazka addressed rumors directly on social media. He said no fight has been confirmed yet. He explained negotiations continue without final agreement. Prochazka stated he wants to fight at the end of March. He mentioned family commitments arriving in April. He reiterated his goal of fighting for a title. He told fans to rely only on official UFC announcements.
