Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook will return to boxing next February to honour his late friend Ricky Hatton. Brook, who last fought in February 2022 when he defeated Amir Khan, will step back into the ring at age 39.
Multiple sources confirmed that Brook will face Eisa Al Dah in Dubai — the same fighter Hatton had been preparing to train before his tragic death. The event, titled “Destiny in The Desert,” will serve as a tribute to Hatton, who passed away last month at 46.
Brook previously considered comebacks against several opponents, including Conor Benn, but he chose this fight to commemorate Hatton’s legacy. The Dubai show will celebrate Hatton’s life while raising awareness of mental health challenges faced by fighters.
A Return with a Purpose
Brook has spoken openly about his own mental health struggles, similar to the battles Hatton faced. On fight night, organisers will launch and support the new Ricky Hatton Foundation, created to help athletes dealing with depression and anxiety.
Brook attended Hatton’s funeral and vowed to honour his memory through the sport they both loved. Many in the boxing community praised his decision, saying it highlights the unity among fighters during difficult times.
“Boxers often stand by one another when tragedy strikes,” one promoter said. “This fight means more than competition — it’s about compassion and remembrance.”
Uncertain Future but Powerful Motivation
No one knows how Brook will perform after nearly four years away from the ring. Fans remain curious whether his return will be a one-off or the start of something new.
Brook’s current record stands at 40 wins with 28 knockouts and three losses. His opponent, 46-year-old Al Dah, holds a record of 8 wins and 3 defeats.
Supporters expect the event to draw global attention, both for Brook’s comeback and its message of solidarity. Organisers hope “Destiny in The Desert” will inspire conversations about mental health support within combat sports.
Brook’s return carries more than sporting significance — it symbolises respect, friendship, and a fight that transcends the ring.
