Brazilian Fighter Seeks Second Chance
Nearly a year after being expelled from the UFC for biting an opponent during his debut, Brazilian bantamweight Igor Severino is preparing to make his case for redemption. Severino is scheduled to compete for the vacant OKTAGON MMA championship in Cologne, Germany, marking a critical step in his comeback. The 2024 incident with André Lima, which resulted in an immediate disqualification, brought intense scrutiny, but Severino says he has turned the episode into motivation to rebuild his reputation and career.
Belief That the Door Isn’t Closed
Despite his dismissal, Severino remains optimistic that he could one day return to the UFC. He noted that UFC President Dana White “has forgiven worse things before,” expressing confidence that strong performances outside the organization could reopen that door. Following the infamous bite, Severino faced a nine-month suspension and a $2,000 fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Now, he says his focus is on discipline, consistency, and proving that he has matured since the incident.
A Fight for Redemption and Respect
Carrying a 9–1 professional record, Severino enters his OKTAGON title bout determined to show his evolution both as a fighter and a person. Although missing weight has made him ineligible to claim the championship, the Brazilian views this match as a chance to demonstrate resilience and skill. “That moment will follow me forever,” Severino admitted. “The only way to change what people remember is to keep winning and stay professional.”
