Rising Star Sets His Sights Higher
UFC middleweight contender Joe Pyfer has made his ambitions clear. He wants to face Paulo Costa in what he calls a dream fight. The American views this matchup as the perfect chance to prove his place among the elite.
In recent years, Pyfer has built a strong reputation in the UFC’s middleweight ranks. Despite some bumps along the way, he remains one of the division’s hardest hitters. On Saturday night, he added another skill to his résumé by submitting Abus Magomedov at UFC 320.
The opening round didn’t go as planned, but Pyfer turned things around with determination and power. His victory has reignited his momentum in a division now shaken up by Khamzat Chimaev’s title win over Dricus du Plessis.
Pyfer Shares His Dream Opponents
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Pyfer revealed who he wants next.
“Paulo Costa would be a dream fight,” he said. “But he’s been so inactive. He’s fought maybe once or twice in two years. I’d rather take on hungry, active guys like Marvin Vettori, Jared Cannonier, or Roman Dolidze. One more finish in the top 15, and I can face anyone in the top 10.”
Climbing Toward Contention
Pyfer still has ground to cover before becoming a real title contender. But few middleweights show as much potential or power right now. His steady rise should encourage him—and excite fans eager to see what comes next.
