Rumor that led to fans calling for UFC title contender to be cut from the roster debunked in new update

Shavkat Rakhmonov’s future in the UFC has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with fans fearing that the undefeated welterweight had suffered a serious setback. The Kazakh star, who has been out of action since his UFC 310 victory, was rumored to have reinjured the same knee that required surgery, prompting concerns he could face an even longer layoff.

The rumor, which originated from UPFRONT MMA citing a Kazakh news outlet, sparked criticism from fans frustrated by Rakhmonov’s absence. Some even called for him to be cut from the roster, likening him to Zabit Magomedsharipov, another highly touted fighter whose career was derailed by inactivity.

However, the speculation has now been cleared up. Journalist Dimash Tulegenov confirmed via vesti.kz that he contacted Rakhmonov’s manager, Sayat Abdrakhmanov, who denied the reports and assured that “everything is fine.”

The update means Rakhmonov remains on track for a return in early 2026, with the possibility of facing a top contender before re-entering the title picture. Despite the long layoff, his credentials remain strong: 19 consecutive wins, including seven inside the UFC, giving him the joint-longest active winning streak in MMA.

With the welterweight division in flux—Islam Makhachev moving up, Belal Muhammad set to fight Ian Machado Garry, and Jack Della Maddalena headlining against Makhachev—Rakhmonov’s comeback could shake up the title picture once again. Fans may have to wait a little longer, but “Nomad” is still very much in the mix at 170 pounds.
